Stone Soup

This year my class will be exploring the fable of Stone Soup.   We will be reading different versions and comparing them.      We plan to have our own Stone Soup luncheon on November 22.

Stone Soup Kidspiration Writing Project

Here is a little template I made. Have students recall the sequence of the story and place symbolic pictures in each box. They then go to the writing page and complete the project by writing in the rest of the story.

Lesson

Ideas
Compare and Contrast different versions
  • Beach versus--soldier version
  • How Many People in the story
  • Which vegetables were used
Have students sequence the story. for each part, students draw illustrations. Then create a class book.
WRITE ABOUT IT
  • Students write about the difference between the Beach Version (and others) and why that version is important (the old woman gets the man to work, instead of other versions where the woman/villagers provide the ingredients)
  • What would it be like to be hungry all the time
  • How could you manage traveling from place to place not knowing if you would have something to eat
Create a Flannel Board Story

Student can use the teacher made flannel board pieces from  The Mysterious Soup or Byr-Back Manor versions to retell the story.

Make a Graph

  • all the vegetables in the story
  • Your favorite vegetable
  • the favorite vegetable of all the students in the class

Make a timeline of the story Draw a picture for each section.
