• in what kinds of rocks are fossils found

• what tools are used to "dig" for fossils

• what is the person who looks for fossils called

As part of our Social Studies program we are going to learn about American symbols. We will be making a TLC art book. Inside the book we will be writing about what we have learned. TLC art images are cut and torn paper images created by students using the math vocabulary we use everyday. We have used this form of "art" before to create images of all kinds.

Our Reading Program

Our school district uses Houghton-Mifflin Legacy of Learning. The second grade curriculum is based on six themes. Each theme has a number of stories. Here are the themes and a few stories that are included.

• Theme One- Silly Stories        

• Theme Two- Nature Walk

• Theme Three- Around Town   

• Theme Four-Amazing Animals   

• Theme Five- Family Time  

• Theme Six- Talent Show

Art

  With No Child Left Behind, school districts have put pressure on teachers to make sure all activities done during the school day are some how connected to California State Standards.

    We will continuing to make connections to the core  with all art and craft activities we do. We will be creating some neat projects including a social studies project using TLC art.

    We will also have the opportunity to make connections to literature with our art including some awesome gingerbread men.
