(first day of school)
The Learning Wall
On top of the shelf near the 2004 will go another shelf..It will face the other way and contain student mailboxes. I will cover the back with flannel and it will be a flannel board center. It used to be a 5' shelf with all cubbies but I didn't want something that big. So my husband cut the middle out and we'll stack the halves...facing different ways.
I
finally finished rebuilding the shelves on the right. Originally it was five feet tall
with 35 large cubbies. I cut the shelf into thirds and kept the top and the bottom halves.
Using pieces from the middle I made mailboxes. Here is the pictures of each side. Both are
covered with felt to be flannel boards.

On the first day of school here is the new view by the door...

Just off to the right of the door is my reading table. It's also my workstation. I will have a "desk" area under the Focus Wall where the principal can find my lesson plans when she does her "walk though")
My Chicka Tree Bulletin Board
is getting started. Below my only free space bb. is the computer center. I have three
computers (one will be added where the monkey is)... Another computer is in the learning
area. I will do whole class instruction
there.
Ah! I
am getting closer..I have the title on now!
Adding Monkeys The
monkeys were part of a kit from OrientalTraders. They were door hangers but I didn't add
that part. They are adorable...with pipe cleaner arms and legs.
All Decked Out The
title of this board (not yet applied) will be LOOK WHO'S HANGING AROUND FIRST GRADE! The
big monkey is from Wal-Mart. His arms and legs are one piece, so if you pull his arm, that
leg grows shorter...so funny and sooooooooooooooffffffffft..The small one is a TY
Beanie-Swinger.
A few more spots are done too!
The Vocabluary
Wall Chart Across
the top of the chalkboard (see it on the right) will be names of all the students. The
first weeks I'll do NAMES activities a la Four Blocks, of course! You can barely see
the Word Wall on the left. A shelving unit goes across that whole wall and the word wall
is above.
THE
WORD WALL is above a set of shelves. I finally cleaned up a bit so you can see the word
wall...but it's empty..the doorway leads to the libray.
Oh the word wall looks much better with bigger ABC's...

Our Daily Schedule (behind the sagging chicka tree..I'll figure something out..
My Focus Wall...Someone might ask why I'd want a Focus Wall if my district doesn't require it...but I think it keeps ME focused on what I am/need to teach. I am not quite happy with this one yet...it's low on priorities, but it's coming along!

My focus wall exists between the only pieces of storage I have...'course that doesn't count the bookcase I covered with Chicka print fabric.
